EGE expands its range of explosion-proof flow sensors, adding the new LC5 GA EX22 series of extremely robust airflow monitors for use in zone 2 and 22 environments with potentially explosive gas or dust atmospheres. The ATEX-certified, intrinsically safe and encapsulated airflow monitors in IP67 stainless-steel housings are available with M18 or G1/2 threads. They detect airflows at speeds from 0.5 m/s to 20 m/s with response times <5 s. For accurate adjustment at a given flow velocity, the devices feature a potentiometer screw and a two-color LED on the front side. Red, green and flashing lights signal when the minimum or maximum output current in a standard signal range 4...20 mA have been reached. LC5 GA EX22 airflow monitors are designed for use in temperature ranges from -10 °C to 60 °C and come with a two-meter fixed PUR cable by default. EGE supplies the devices with longer cables on request.

Launching the new multifunctional IO-Link converter IOL-KONV-UIS-01, EGE presents a compact and simple solution for noise-free digital signal transmission from conventional sensors via IO-Link. Depending on its configuration, the converter registers up to two analog values (0…10 V, 4…20 mA) or switching signals from the connected sensor, converts them into digital signals and transmits them to an IO-Link primary device. In addition to the digital output for process data transmission, the device has a second, analog output for programmable current or switching signals. All conventional sensors from EGE and other manufacturers can be connected to the converter, regardless of operating principles and measured values. The IO-Link converter offers additional monitoring functions. If the power consumption or operating voltage of the connected sensor deviate from recorded setpoints, for instance due to corrosion, the device sends an error message to the controller as an IO-Link event. To protect its own electronics, the converter features temperature monitoring, short-circuit detection and an adjustable shutdown function in case of overload. A front-end multicolor LED clearly shows the operating status. M12 connectors for sensors and IO-Link primary devices eliminate any cabling effort. The IP67-rated converter housing features lugs for flexible mounting near the sensor in all installation conditions. The converter is parameterized according to IO-Link Device Description V1.1 using an engineering tool connected via the IO-Link interface.

The new ATEX-certified airflow monitors from the LC 518 GSP-EX22 series from EGE are used for flow monitoring of gaseous media in exhaust and supply air lines that require category 3 sensors. The stainless-steel sensors are designed for a 0.5 m/s to 20 m/s detection range. In applications with a specified air flow, users can easily adjust the limit value during operation via an onboard potentiometer. The flow state is indicated by a three-color light on the housing front and transmitted for further processing by a PNP switching output. When the limit value is exceeded, the light changes from red to yellow, a further increase in the flow velocity is signaled by a green light. The 80 mm long sensors are mounted directly in the wall of the ventilation duct with mounting nuts included in the scope of delivery. The M18 thread, which runs over the entire length of the housing, allows optimal positioning at different wall thicknesses. If the airflow is sufficient in the edge area, the measuring surface can be installed on a level with the inner wall of the duct. The sensors are designed in protection class IP67 and connected via a 2 m long PUR cable.

EGE announces the new LC 521 GSP-EX22 series of ATEX-certified screw-in airflow monitors with G1/2 thread for easy parameterization. The stainless-steel category 3 sensors have a 0.5 m/s to 20 m/s detection range. They are suitable for flow monitoring of gaseous media in zone 2 and 22 hazardous areas. They are installed in supply or exhaust air ducts with a screw adapter with a G1/2 female thread. The sensors are available in lengths of 32 mm, 49 mm, 101 mm or 151 mm. In applications with a specified air flow, users can easily set the limit value via the integrated potentiometer. The flow state is indicated by a three-color light on the housing front and transmitted for further processing by a PNP switching output. When the limit value is exceeded, the light changes from red to yellow, a further increase in the flow velocity is signaled by a green light. SZAb evaluation devices from EGE for ATEX-certified ST and STS flow monitors are now available with an IECEx approval. These devices feed sensors installed in hazardous environments. They have an intrinsically safe circuit, galvanically isolated from the signal output and mains supply and are mounted in a control cabinet outside areas with potentially explosive atmospheres. For application-specific signaling, the evaluation devices are available with relay or analog 4…20 mA outputs. The relay output versions allow users to set switch-off delays of up to 25 seconds. Limit values for all models are simply set via a potentiometer on the front of the device. A multi-color LED line indicates the flow tendency. A red LED light indicates that the default limit value is not reached and the switching output is not active. A yellow LED indicates that the limit value has been reached and the output is switched. In addition, four green LEDs show by how much, relatively, the limit value is being exceeded. To avoid unnoticed defects, the evaluation devices feature cable breakage and short-circuit monitoring functions. The analog output version requires a 24 V DC power supply. Models with a relay output are also available for 230 V AC or 115 V AC operation.

The IGMF 202 GSP inductive proximity switch from German manufacturer EGE is an excellent fit for demanding applications with limited installation space and ambient temperatures between -5 °C and 120 °C. Due to its slim stainless-steel housing with a male M8 thread, the IGMF 202 GSP can also be mounted in places for which conventional models are too large. The flush design version of the temperature-change-resistant proximity switch features a sensing distance of 2 mm for ST 37 steel. A special plastic light element at the cable outlet visually signals object detection with a yellow light. Thanks to its waterproof housing, the proximity switch qualifies for car washes and other applications with regular cleaning. The sealing concept is also suitable for use in oil-laden environments. The sensor is operated with a DC voltage between 10 V and 30 V. EGE supplies it with a two-meter FEP cable by default.

Suitable for most common liquids such as water, alcohol, oils, and fluid greases, the flow sensor is ideal for monitoring minimum lubrication or ensuring that the right amounts of chemicals or additives are metered out. Since the sensor operates according to the thermodynamic principle, it does not have any moving or corrosion-prone wear-and-tear parts. Due to its high sensitivity, it reacts to changing flow rates – caused for example by the actuation of a dosing piston – with extremely short reaction times of 0.1 s. The sensor’s built-in processing unit emits a switching signal for each detected pulse via a short-circuit-proof PNP-NO output and can hold the signal for up to 10 s. In addition, green and yellow LEDs on the housing front signal the detected pulses and the current device status. Manufactured from stainless steel and PBT, the robust sensors feature IP54 ingress protection and withstand pressures up to 10 bar. They are suitable for media temperatures between 0 °C and 80 °C. The units are operated with 24 VDC. They are fitted into pipes via a tube fitting or a G? thread and connected by means of an M12 connector. Mounting angles are available as accessories. EGE introduces a new generation of level controllers with guided microwave: the MFN series sensors feature an IO-Link interface and thereby enable continuous access of PLCs to process and parameterization data. Using a corresponding master, the level controllers can be connected to any common bus system and conveniently parameterized via PC or notebook. The guided microwave measuring principle ensures high reliability due to its insensitivity to external influences such as temperature, pressure, or density. It provides for precise measurements in liquids such as water, oil, and emulsions as well as in viscous media. MFN sensors stand out due to their particularly short reaction times in case of level changes. Their display units can be configured to show the measured level in mm, cm, inch, liter, or percent. The housings can be rotated by 360° along with integrated LED indicators and control panels, allowing users easy access for configuring the devices and reading measured values. The level controllers feature IP67 ingress protection and are designed for an ambient temperature range of -25 °C to +85 °C. The completely redesigned amplifier is characterized by higher adjustable sensitivity levels, reduced susceptibility to interference, and a more robust housing with IP67 ingress protection. Featuring automatic self-calibration, the unit works reliably even if the detector coil comes near metal fittings. Users can adjust the sensitivity of the detector coil as required via a rotary potentiometer on the housing front. The amplifier has a 260 x 160 x 90 mm wide aluminum housing. It is designed for an extended temperature range of -25 °C to +70 °C. EGE’s System 3000 is used in conveyor lines for noncontact detection of metal parts that could damage downstream machines or degrade the quality of bulk solids. Thanks to its rugged design, it is suited for outdoor use in harsh and dirty environments. The size of detected parts varies for different models. The MDVH unit is optimized for medium-sized parts such as nails, nuts, wire, or silverware. MDV series devices are designed to protect machinery by identifying larger metal parts such as excavation bucket teeth or parts of tools and enclosures.

EGE now offers ATEX- and IECEx-certified signal processing units for the growing range of ATEX- and IECEx-approved two-wire sensors. IECEx certification greatly facilitates exporting the intrinsically safe sensors to many countries around the world – machine manufacturers and plant engineers will find it much easier to use such products in markets where they could not be used previously or required very tedious special certification. Type IKMb 122 Ex signal processing units connect to intrinsically safe EGE two-wire sensors for hazardous gas and dust atmospheres. They feature a space-saving, 22 mm wide DIN rail housing and are installed outside the hazardous area. Green, yellow, and red LEDs on the front side indicate the operating status and signal alarms if the integrated cable breakage detection or the short-circuit monitoring is triggered. The output can be set as normally closed or normally open.

Ultrasonic sensors from EGE’s AGVU-…H series for a 150..1500 mm detection range are extremely durable and fulfill the most demanding hygienic requirements. Featuring IP69K ingress protection, they allow for easy cleaning with high-pressure and steam-jet cleaners. This ensures optimum hygiene in food and beverage industry applications as well as, for instance, in medical and pharmaceutical production. The sensors can be used for fill-level detection, distance measurement, presence verification, or detecting and counting moving objects. They come in a rugged, fully encapsulated, gap-free stainless-steel housing. Depending on available installation space, two sizes can be selected: either D30 or the especially compact D18, with only 30 cm total length including the hygienic cable fitting. Integrated temperature compensation enables high measuring precision in the -20 °C to +70 °C range. A protective circuit ensures short-circuit strength and protection against polarity reversal. Versions with an analogue output (4..20 mA) are supplied with pre-set response curves, while models with a switch output allow for a quick and easy adjustment of the desired switching points via teach-in.

The sensors are designed for continuous operation in liquid or viscous media at temperatures from -25 °C to +140 °C. In dry processes, they even withstand temperatures up to 160 °C. They are therefore ideally suited for cooking processes in the food industry, including moving and positioning conveyors, sieves, baskets, and boilers. They can also be used in sterilization processes. The sensors‘ high thermal resistance is achieved through a special sealing technology between sensor and connector and a stainless-steel housing. This construction ensures high ingress protection. M12, M18, and M30 proximity switches with nominal switching distances between 2 and 15 mm are available. Thanks to their integrated electronics, they do not require a separate processing unit. They are connected via a 2-meter silicone cable. The LDS 1000 series expands the portfolio with sensors for large pipe diameters up to 200 mm. Compressed air has many advantages as an energy source, but is also relatively expensive. Undetected leaks and unnecessary additional consumption may incur high costs. Sensors of the LDS 1000 series monitor consumption in compressed air supply systems via the robust differential pressure principle. They support a broad variety of options for energy-efficient monitoring and control of compressed air networks. All devices in the series clearly show the air consumption of a pressure-supplied area, machine segment or tool on a six-digit display with sensor keys at the front. Alternatively, an I/O-Link connection facilitates easy readout of measured values directly by a PLC, as well as convenient parameterization of the sensor from a PC or notebook. The robust immersion probes are resistant to dirt and provide additional measured values for pressure and temperature as well as leakage detection. Useful features such as a dosing function, hysteresis function, tampering detection, and a switch-off delay are also integrated.
